An Interview with Asanda by Risana Maneli

Asanda Shongwe is an amazing netball player, sport woman of the year for 2024, a top 10 performer in academics and a hard-working prefect.
It is no doubt that, at the age of thirteen, she has already made a good name for herself. Let’s find out how she manages these different roles and what her plans are for the future.
Risana: Can you describe what you experience when playing netball?
Asanda: I experience a sense of relief and enjoyment.
Risana: What is your greatest strength in the sport and how do you use it to play matches?
Asanda: My strength is shooting, and I use it to win matches. Passing to the right players is a valuable advantage.
Risana: What strategy do you use to make sure you give your all during games?
Asanda: Have a game plan before the match.
Risana: Have you ever taken a leadership position to guide the team through a difficult game?
Asanda: Yes, I usually instruct my team on what the game plan should be and make changes when necessary.
Risana: How do you balance your schoolwork and practices?
Asanda: I make time for each; giving each one equal attention.
Risana: What do you and your team usually do during practice?
Asanda: We do fitness training, like running.
Risana: What are your short-term and long-term goals?
Asanda: My short-term goal is to do better in academics this term. My long-term goal is to be more successful in netball.
Risana: What do you usually do before a match?
Asanda: We warm-up before a match.
Risana: Do you ever see yourself as a future captain?
Asanda: Yes!
Risana: Do you plan on continuing with netball in the future?
Asanda: Yes, I plan on continuing.
