Mr. Taylor is a well-known figure in our school. He has talked to us about what a true five-star student is. He always tells us how we can improve and strive for excellence and to be ready for duty. It is obvious that he wants Brandwag’s children to show the world who we really are: hardworking, academically strong and powerful in sports.
Risana: How long have you been working at Brandwag Primary?
Mr Taylor: 13 years
Risana: What do you love most about Brandwag?
Mr. Taylor: The friendly environment, the smiles the students have on their faces, the children that greet and hug me.
Risana: What was your dream job?
Mr. Taylor: My dream job was to be a teacher but if I wasn’t a teacher I would be a world traveler.
Risana: Why do you love teaching drama?
Mr. Taylor: It is a passion of mine and it gives children the opportunity to get good marks. Some children might be more interested in practical subjects or they might want to express themselves with confidence. Drama can allow them to do so.
Risana: How did you feel after the results of the Eisteddfod was announced?
Mr. Taylor: It was a highlight of the year for me. The grade 7 group really gave a good performance and I’m proud of them.
Risana: What did you major in at University and which degrees do you have?
Mr. Taylor: I didn’t go to University but I did teacher’s training for English, Afrikaans and Drama.
Risana: Where do you see Brandwag in five years?
Mr. Taylor: To see Brandwag get noticed in sports and other activities. I see Brandwag being in a place it really deserves – to be known by people.
Risana: Have you worked at other schools other than Brandwag?
Mr. Taylor: Yes, I was a teacher at Universitas Primary (Tjokkies), Tweespruit Primary, Jagersfontein Primary, Sentraal and then finally Brandwag.
Risana: What do you do in your free time?
Mr. Taylor: I take photos, then travel around the country as well as neighbouring countries and overseas. I also like reading and cooking, I listen to music as well.
Risana: Give one interesting fact about yourself.
Mr. Taylor: I have done 250 parkruns and city runs.
